Thank you to middle school students Annabel and Tilly for interviewing Karen Overall, our Acting Principal (spoiler alert: regarding footy, there’s yellow and black in the answers!).
Where were you before you came to Kew Primary School? I was the Principal at Belmore School. This is a school for children who have physical disabilities and health impairments.
Have you always been a principal? No, I have not always been a principal. I have been a teacher and a leading teacher in the Junior School.
What footy team do you barrack for? Richmond!
Do you have a family? Yes, I have a husband a son and a daughter.
How do you relax? I like to go on holidays to Hamilton Island. Most weekends I like to have brunch with my family.
What do you think about Kew so far? Kew is an amazing school. It has the most wonderful students and staff who have given me a very warm welcome.
Do you know about our sporting events? Yes, I know about cross country, swimming, inter-school sports and bike ed. I was at the House Athletics on Wednesday and I was very impressed with all the students.
Where’s your favourite place in Melbourne? My favourite place in Melbourne is Kew.
What’s your favourite place in the whole world? London!
What is your favourite book? A picture story book by Mem Fox called Time for Bed.
What was your happiest moment in your life? Having my two children and getting to take them to Disneyland. Charlotte is 13 and Lachlan is 17.
Why do you like teaching children and being a Principal? I like being a Principal because I like to teach children how to be good members of the community.
Where did you grow up? I was born in Box Hill Hospital and I grew up in Templestowe.
