The Book Week parade… Every year it thrills kids but sends a ripple of fear through parents, when elaborate costume plans are announced the night before the parade!
Despite the costume-making-mayhem that no doubt goes on, our Book Week parade is always brilliant and 2017 was no exception. Ruth Woolven recaps –
What a wonderful parade and celebration of picture books we had at our special assembly on Friday. There were so many amazing costumes. Thanks to all the students/parents/carers for their efforts, I know sometimes it can be difficult to get the creative ideas flowing!
This year’s theme Book Week is Escape to Everywhere and the books shortlisted for the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) awards took us on journeys across many cultural and physical landscapes. All library classes looked at the nominated picture books relevant to their age groups. Using the judging criteria we tried to decide which books would take the top prize. The younger students created some beautiful artwork as part of their library lessons. Please visit the Library to see the Book Week display.
The winners, announced on Friday, were Home in the Rain for Picture Book of the Year (ages 0 – 18) and Go Home Cheeky Animals for Book of the Year: Early Childhood (ages 0 – 9).
A special thank you goes to Kerry Lomas, our wonderful art teacher, for her banner (at the top of this post) and other artistic support for Book Week.
