Years 1 and 2 had a ‘wild’ day out of the classroom last week – Natalie Ryan tells us what they got up to –
On Thursday 28th July, Year 1’s and 2’s went on an excursion to Werribee Zoo. This was a part of our geography unit, looking at different continents around the world. It fit in perfectly as we saw animals from all over the world. We had an education session, where we became detectives and looked at different habitats that animals live in.
The lions turned it on for us, where the cubs were playing around with mum and dad.
The highlight of the excursion was the Safari bus. This took us to the savannah of Africa, where we were lucky enough to see giraffes, zebras, hippos and rhinos, and more. The rhinos came right up to the bus, displaying their very sharp horns.
This is what some of the students thought about the excursion:
‘I liked the rhinos, they were about to bump our bus.’ Ethan 1IG
‘My favourite part was when we went on the Safari bus and saw the camels. Did you know they SPIT?’ Lucy 1BE
‘Lachie, Marco, Toby, Cooper H, and I had to make a shelter for a bird. It had to keep them safe from predators and rain. I enjoyed doing that.’ Sam 2BN
‘My favourite thing was learning new facts about animals.’ Chisa 2DP
‘I enjoyed seeing monkeys running around.’ Oliver 1MH
‘My favourite thing was going to see the meerkats. They were eating and looking in the mirror.’ Lili 2NW
