We could not have asked for a better day for last week’s House Cross Country meet. While Mr Penson and Kerry limbered up ahead of their participation in every race, Clare made sure the competitors were physically and psychologically ready to run. I took careful note of her words of wisdom at the start of the U11 Boys race – “I want you to push out of your comfort zone. I’m not asking you to vomit but work hard.” (Excellent advice – I’ll remember this next time I go out for yum cha).
Over to Clare Connor for the results –
What a sensational sunny day for our Cross Country at Hays Paddock on Tuesday 19th April. As the year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students entered the main entrance, the oval was soon filled with colour and excited cheers.
Kerry and myself met early to mark the course out and set up check points for the parents who volunteered to make our Cross Country event safe. A big thank you to the 30 parents that volunteered.
There were great results throughout the day with a lot of students achieving personal best running results. Once again I was impressed with the year 3 students that competed in the cross country for the first time. They conquered their nerves and demonstrated excellent stamina.
The above students qualified to represent KPS at the District Cross Country on the 5th May 2016 at Hays Paddock. Students who finished 11th and 12th will be reserves for this event.
Cross Country is a house event and the results were –
1st Place KALBAN – 161 points
2nd Place TURAKU – 132 points
3rd Place ALUNNGA – 111 points
4th Place JANNALI – 102 points
Our next House event is the House Athletics on the 5th August 2016 at Box Hill Athletics track.
Lets hear from some our students about our Cross Country –
“My favourite thing about the Cross Country was watching everyone race and seeing Kerry on the bike. Kerry must’ve been very exhausted.” Liam 3 /4 K
“My favourite thing about the Cross Country was watching everyone race in the sun.” Catherine 3/4 E
“My favourite thing about Cross Country was finishing. I thought I finished in 20th position, but I actually finished 11th. Last time I raced I finished 32nd. I am so happy with how much I improved.” Jack 5SM
“My favourite thing about the Cross Country was passing the finishing line. I was tired, exhausted and happy at the same time.” Michelle 6SW
Thank-you Saied Bahramian for the photos.
